Frequently asked questions

What does Ray Energy do?

Ray Energy is a New Zealand electricity business specialising in secondary networks, electricity retailing, solar generation, smart metering (RAYdar), and energy consulting. We design, operate, and manage electricity infrastructure for multi-tenant buildings and work with individual businesses on their energy needs.

What are secondary networks?

Secondary networks include customer networks and embedded networks, where electricity is purchased in bulk and distributed within a building or site. Ray Energy designs, manages, and retails electricity within these network structures.

General

Why am I supplied by Ray Energy?

If you are located within a building with a customer network, the building owner has appointed Ray Energy to manage electricity supply and billing within the site.

Can I choose another electricity retailer?

In customer networks, electricity supply arrangements are managed at a building level. The building owner selects the retailer responsible for the network. In Embedded Networks, you can select your electricity retailer of choice from the list of electricity retailers who participate on the network.

How are electricity charges calculated?

Electricity charges are based on metered consumption within your unit, along with applicable network and retail components. Ray Energy provides transparent billing aligned with the network structure.

What is the benefit of a customer or embedded network?

Secondary networks can enable improved cost management, simplified infrastructure, integration of solar and EV charging, and clearer allocation of electricity within multi-tenant buildings.

Customer & Embedded Networks
